Day 3 of Visions of Sugar Plums: Snowflake and Icicle Vintage Metal Tape Canisters Giveaway

Welcome back to the last day of Visions of Sugar Plums! I do so enjoy VOSP every single year! I saved the biggest for last!

I wanted to share with you today three altered containers that are upcyled. I am also giving these away! I will explain how to win them shortly, but first I need to explain how to make them!

Here is what I started with! Sorry the cookies are all gone, so step one would be to eat the cookies...

I made myself a pile of embossed tape to cover the tins. The tape is something sold at hardware stores or Amazon for duct work. I personally love using it for projects so I have my own roll.

I just used pieces of washi to hold strips of tape together so I could emboss large chunks. It's adhesive on the back, so it was easy to peel off the backing and carefully cover the metal.

I also really wanted to use feet on the large canister, but they were for a square box, so I improvised with a square base upcycled base, super glue, and some brads. Wait 'til you see what I did with those icicles!

Here is what the canisters looked like after covering them in the tape.

I then used a burgundy spray paint & gold to cover the tape. The colors mixed a bit and gave it a really pretty look.

Love love love how I got the whole square bottom thing to work with those icicles!

The tops are even cool! Really excited about those knobs! So pretty with the snowflakes!

Check out that little metal piece on the front of the bigger canister. I found that at an antique store and thought it worked out well.

Day 2 of Visions of Sugar Plums: New Blue Birds with Vintage Holly & Mercury Glass Bases

While shopping for Christmas stuff at Michaels, I noticed a few ceramic birds on clearance for half off. I decided that they would make most excellent candidates for candle stick make-overs! One of my most favorite spots in the Restore is where they have all the candles & candle sticks. Normally they have odd ones that are in need of repurposing! Plus your money goes to help Habitat for Humanity.

Let me show you what I started with.

I didn't do much to any of the candle sticks or the silver base that I also found at the Restore. The one candle stick & glass plate got a coat of looking glass spray paint so it would look like mercury glass. I wrote a post on how to do that here if you are interested. The silver got a little white tooth paste polish to take off the tarnish. I picked up a set of white sparkly branches to augument the vintage velvet holly leaves I also found at the Restore. After that it was hot glue gun work!

A little spanish moss as a nest, some velvet flowers & holly berries and voila! Three upcycled decorations fit for my mantle!

Clustered up with a few other vintage finds, it's super pretty! Love those deer!

Blue birds, a vintage Scotty & elves all get along, right?

I really appreciate your visit and would like to invite you to hop along to these other blogs for more inspiration and prizes! (Don't leave yet though, I have more to tell you about my prize!)

Day 1 of Visions of Sugar Plums: Reindeer Food Cards with THE CUTTING CAFE

Hey there! Waving from New York at all you peeps visiting from the Visions of Sugar Plum blog hop! I'm so excited to share my first project with you. I used a cutting file from The Cutting Cafe, one of the sponsors who is near and dear to my heart. (Get it? I was trying to be punny you know with the deer on the cards??)

I cut those deer with the print & cut feature on my Silhouette and also those lovely Christmas Treat Cups that I filled with Reindeer Food! It was super easy to make the ornament treat cup!

My favorite part was making the cards all girlie with the pretty rainbow ribbon, rainbow embossed banner, and some Christmas washi.

There are four little girls I know who are anxious for that visit from St. Nick and plan on spreading reindeer food on their lawn before they go to sleep! I always loved that tradition with my kids! Mine are too old now, sadly! So glad I had a great cutting file to use to make these!

Duncan Layout: 1st Photo

Finally getting around to make a page from the first photo we took of Duncan. He's our new to us Second Hand Dog. Love that pup! As much as I love him though he makes me crazy. I told him this weekend his new middle name was not Donut but Dennis like Dennis the Menace! ;-)

In this photo, he had just gotten out of the truck from the shelter and Luke was giving him a little walk around the place. Used some papers that made me happy including a slab of water color that Lexi made.

I saved a tag that come home with Duncan & matched it up with that black star paper and those script leaves. Love that black against the color. It's a happy page!

Just a little layering, some black splatter and some gold grundge paint! Happy Times!

Hope you have a fabulous Thursday!

The Ninth Punch Cup of Christmas for the Funkie Junkie Challenge

The pile of glass cups is getting so small..only three to go now that I have the Ninth Cup done and dusted! This one was so much fun! I have a thing for elves so I was excited to find this very small elf at Michaels. Had to fix his paint a little..it wasn't quite up to snuff, so then he got coated in some clear nail polish & glitter...Of course I had to make a real scarf....

You might be wondering HOW even this pertains to Linda's tag which is a cup of coffee...

Well, you are aren't you...Ok, let me go with what I was thinking....COFFEE IS MAGICAL OMG. Plus I was already using a cup so adding another seemed like overkill....I did use that very large snowflake as a background that you can see behind the elf that matches up on the coffee cup.

Other than that, I divereged wildly from her tag with a bunch of rainbow colors including orange glass toadstools. I had to build a little shelf out of foam for the elf, which I hot glued in and coated in glitter glue & glitter.

Added some gold gems to the rim & inked up some of the white paint.

Added some other bright colored inks on the outside & more gold & glitter glue. Was going for a funky tea shop look!

Currently I am stalking the mailbox! Grabbed a bunch of goodies from Linda's Shop on Black Friday. In fact, it was some of the only shopping I did! Good times! Linda's Shop, The Funkie Junkie is sponsoring this challenge and I saw a lot of the awesome elements she has used on past tags for sale!

Happy Hump Day!

Confession Time Layout for Another Freaking Scrappy

Oh my, it's the first of the month again! We offically start the count down to Christmas today!

Anne over at Another Freaking Scrappy asked us to scrap a favorite Christmas memory. My parents have been talking about this since I was a wee one. I'm STILL traumatized over it. Yes, let me get you a close up of the journaling...

My father maintains he was hanging out watching the trainwreck...which seems to fit since only a guy would let a small person go on about dead rabbits and all that in public.

How do you like that awesome wreath! The paper & die cuts came from a lovely Close to My Heart crafternoon I went to recently. (Thanks Jean!) I added the flowers & gold paint. had to get the grunge going!

Another page for my ME album done and dusted! Come play along & that a happy Christmas memory scrapped! Happy Tuesday!

Me on a Monday: Nosy Nose, Parades & a Vintage Hankie Spindle Angel

Ah what a nice weekend. The Pratt Clan has been off since Wednesday so it has been quite a long time away from work. We were celebrating our Thanksgiving holiday and got a jump start on Christmas. Lots of crafting around these parts. The Civil Air Patrol Centerpieces for the First Annual Christmas Party are just about done. Too bad you can't see them..nosy Duncan had to get in the photo!

Got a template done for some hankie angels I want to make with left overs from the Grandma Skip Hankie Quilt. I had to even sew a little so a shout out to my Mom for helping me get my sewing machine set up with white & the right stitch.

Love those vintage wooden spindles I found at an antique store. They make an awesome body & head for my angel! Paired up with some gold pipe cleaners and lots of flowers...I have a pile of stuff set up to make seven more...wish me luck, they are a little futzy....

I passed out candy on Friday night in a parade in Sayre for work and my oldest was in the Parade of Lights here in Corning. She marched for a club she is in called Sisters Cities. She hopes to eventually go to Italy and host someone here from there when she is a senior.

I made her some fancy smancy antlers to wear....love how they match her scarf! I just doubled up a set from the dollar store and added a burlap rose, berries, and velvet holly.

The antlers made rounds a little....

Looks like Luke got photo bombed by an undercover Santa...he is doing his grumpy cat impression!

And I'll leave you with that photo on this fine Monday as we march slowly towards Christmas! Here's to a productive week!

Waving over to Sian the Me on a Monday Girl who inspires these posts!

Turkey Butter Sculpture & Happy Thanks!

Yes it's a Turkey Butter Sculpture!

We're in the throws of a nice relaxing day here at Pratt Inc. THE MAN had to run into work and serve up a Turkey Dinner to the hard working folks at the plant...so we celebrated yesterday...

And we did not have Turkey so I splurged and hooked myself up with a butter turkey...he's a real butterball! oh the jokes are endless....

And how about that cactus that is blooming up a storm! Pretty!

So Happy Thanksgiving if you are here and Happy Thursday to the rest of you!

Granny Time Layout for Stephanie

My Mother in Law was telling us about a pumpkin she made with her grandkids & daughter Stephanie the other day. I thought it was pretty cool she hot glued crayons on a white pumkin and melted them down the side with a blowdryer! Made a huge die cut of that pumpkin! Fun times!

I figured I'd get one last pumpkin layout out of the way before Thanksgiving, which is tomorrow. Plus, as much as I am sure Stephanie would LOVE to scrapbook, two little kids makes it tough! SO this page is heading off to her!

A few flowers, pretty frosted buttons, and fringy leaves I cut out of water color paper that Lexi made. Love love love those leaves! Matches the paper perfectly!

Just a simple color for page full of color! Enjoy Stephanie!

The Eigth Punch Cup of Christmas for the Funkie Junkie Challenge

I have GOT to get some plaid ribbon! I always enjoy spotting it on Linda's tag but I had to stash bust a bit to even find something close! (I used seam binding & double sided tape due to desperation!)

Let's take a peek at Linda's tag...

Really enjoyed those trees on her tag, but opted to run with using similar colors, a banner, the black/grey holly and the ornament.

To make my ornament, I printed an image with kids on a sled with a dog and punched out an ornament shape. I then used a metal piece behind the ornament to make it fancy and put pine branches behind the whole thing. Love how the grey leaves worked out! I added a few ribbon flowers that were also grey as I liked the contrast with the red berries & seam binding.

Just in case you think I forgot a snowflake, I snuck one in the bottom of the cup! This one is a dark blue that kinda matches Linda's teal...but mainly I just liked the color.

Linda's Shop, The Funkie Junkie is sponsoring this challenge. I am SURE she has some plaid ribbon that would set me straight! I'll have to take a look!

Happy Tuesday!

Me on a Monday: Guesting at Scrap Addict, the Spray Painting Stump, Sliders & Moody Weather

We have officially moved into The Shop! THE MAN says it's called The Shop now that it's all re-sided & we have the sliding doors all completed. He spent the weekend shuttling things from the shed over to the shop and vice versa. The lawn got its last mowing so the push mower & mower deck got a washing & put away.

Both mornings I was up early. Got to see pretty purple sky from my kitchen window while grabbing some coffee. Love the hills in the distance.

Managed to fit in some spray painting in between grocerying & other running. I am in the process of making center pieces for the Civil Air Patrol Christmas Party. I had to rush the spray painting since it was sunny when I started and then started to snow. Typical New York weather...it can't make up it's mind!

Super excited to tell you that I am guesting over at Helen's Blog with some of my altered off the page projects, so take a peek over at Scrap Addict at the Home Decor Trade Secrets post. She had me give her some ideas on my favorite adhesives. That happens to be one of my favorite topics of conversation...due to a glitter glue addiction...

I will tell you ONE secret here...what do you use to get fresh spray paint off your hands in a big hurry when it's really too cold to paint so you get splatter all over? Cooking oil or baby oil, depending on what room of the house you are in! Of course the best idea would be to wear rubber gloves, but who has time for that! Anyhow, the oil is nice as it's better than some nasty smelling chemical!

Huge thanks to Helen for hosting me! If you aren't following her (you aren't, oh really? seriously you should) join her blog using Google Friend Connect in your sidebar! She is a dynamite when it comes to spotting trends & has amazing skills with mixed medium not to mention interesting tid bits on life in South Africa. She is one of my favorite mixed media bloggers and watching her grow as an artist has been quite a joy!

Anyhow a quick wave to another rock star blogger, Sian the Me on the Monday Girl who entertains me with her scrapping & interesting writing!

Oh and one more quick tip? I subscribe to both of them via email so when they publish a post, it slides right into my inbox so I can keep track of their shenanigans first hand....

THE CUTTING CAFE Thanksgiving Art: Peacock Feathers, a Gold Doily, and Rolled Roses, Oh my!

Peacock feathers, little pumpkins and a yummy graphic work together for this Thanksgiving piece I created! And can you see the huge spray painted leaves in the back? Oh those were fun!

Those large brown and gold leaves in the back started out green until I got crazy with some spray paint. The same paint I used on the gold doily I cut with my Big Shot that is underneath the Thanks Graphic. I also upcycled a square board for my hanging. Added a whole lot of gold paint on the edges and some ink to grunge it up a bit!

The graphic that is the star of the piece is from THE CUTTING CAFE and is in the With Gratitude Set. I printed it on printer paper & then scalloped the edges.

Normally I wouldn't cover the very edges of the graphic with flowers...but I might of accidentally left an orange finger print on the image...so I added a few flowers! oooopsie!

And speaking of yummy things...

Visions of Sugar Plums will be starting very soon...I am posting three days of projects & give aways and am planning on making up at least one project from THE CUTTING CAFE!

Happy Thursday!
