Bingo for Memorandum Monday

I once worked for a man who was really religious. Like so religious, our letters that came with the news of a bonus thanked God for his bounty, yet forgot to thank the people who also worked really hard. It was OK though for a long while because for the most part, his beliefs didn't really change the day to day. At some point though, I heard mumblings of people thinking other people got promoted due to their church attendance and then the owner told me during lunch that a true marriage was of a man to a woman. Good golly miss molly, this is not appropriate lunch time discussion.

So, faced with the idea of working for another Christian organization I cringed and then turned to Google. Thankfully the place I work is:

a global nonprofit, ecumenical Christian housing organization. All who desire to be a part of this work are welcome, regardless of religious preference or background. We have a policy of building with people in need regardless of race or religion. We welcome volunteers and supporters from all backgrounds

This is a good thing because occasionally I tell my boss I believe in Pachamama, the mother earth goddess of Peru. It's also a good thing as I'd hate to see us turn someone away who needs a hand up based on their beliefs. With that in mind, I found myself uttering this simple prayer this past weekend:

Dear God:

I know you are real busy with the Donald Trump fiasco so I will be brief. Pretty please let me do a shit ton of good for Habitat kicking ass, yet don't lose sight of Pratt Inc. or have lots of debt.

Amen.

Pretty sure she heard what I was asking. The lots of debt thing is because well, hello not for profit, it's not like our paychecks are monstrous. The rewards though are and that is what I'm sticking with.

These musings were written for Memorandum Monday which is a brain child of Sian over at From High in the Sky. The photo is of a few little goodies that came home with me from the ReStore.

  1. Well, isn't that just the kind of memo we all need on a Monday to get us thinking :) Bravo to the woman putting her money where her mouth is and taking that not Trump sized paycheck! We need more Mitras in the world.

Wishing you the very best of weeks.

  2. LOL! Love the prayer.... & I'm pretty sure that you need to be careful to not SPEND all your pay check in the place that employs you!!!! It's nice you've had a 'balancing' experience of a different kind of Christian based organisation. Having been involved with the Mission to Seafarers - it's a different type of ministry. More needs based than faith spreading...so I 'get' you there :) Tom always says it's how you act & what you do that will stay with peeps....so if a bunch of Muslim sailors arrive and ask to use the chapel & then ask which way is West [or whatever direction it is they need to pray!]....well, you tell them and leave them to it, right??!!!!!! I think that is at the core of God's heart :):) And how dare you assign himher a SEX? Honestly, Mitra ;) !!!

  4. What a great post. The people with the highest salaries aren't necessarily the happiest people in the world are they?!
