Welcome back to the last day of Visions of Sugar Plums! I do so enjoy VOSP every single year! I saved the biggest for last!
I wanted to share with you today three altered containers that are upcyled. I am also giving these away! I will explain how to win them shortly, but first I need to explain how to make them!
Here is what I started with! Sorry the cookies are all gone, so step one would be to eat the cookies...
I made myself a pile of embossed tape to cover the tins. The tape is something sold at hardware stores or Amazon for duct work. I personally love using it for projects so I have my own roll.
I also really wanted to use feet on the large canister, but they were for a square box, so I improvised with a square base upcycled base, super glue, and some brads. Wait 'til you see what I did with those icicles!
Here is what the canisters looked like after covering them in the tape.
I then used a burgundy spray paint & gold to cover the tape. The colors mixed a bit and gave it a really pretty look.
The tops are even cool! Really excited about those knobs! So pretty with the snowflakes!
Check out that little metal piece on the front of the bigger canister. I found that at an antique store and thought it worked out well.

You're the woman who turned me on to metal tape and I've never looked back. My only regret is that I didn't know about it sooner and have sent things "out there" in the world all nakey and exposed" You have made the world a better place by spreading the word and making repurposing an even more fun process. Your cans kick butt and take names and that board game base is exquisite. I do recall I've seen that board before...
ReplyDeleteIncredible knobs for handles and antique finds!!!
YOU are the rock star, chica.
hugs,
Lisa
WOW!! And so weird that this very morning... only about an hour ago... I put that metal tape on a project!! I couldn't help myself.. mornings before work are supposed to be chore time, but I'm working on something.. well really a few things... that I just want to finish one of them! I'll be posting mine soon.. not sure when because I'm stuck but I will... your project is such an inspiration! And I was wondering what I'd use on a large project to cover the seams... is that what you did here? I was reading it fast... I'll have to come back and look at it later again... so very cool!
ReplyDeleteSo pretty. I am always amazed at people's creativity.
ReplyDeleteThese are really beautiful!!! How very clever you are. I only wish you had done on video on how you did this!
