Cool Eddy and Flat Eddy

written for Cool Eddy and Linking up to Story Telling Sunday over at Sian's Place

Let me introduce you to my friend Cool Eddy. He also happens to be my nephew. That is him with his Momma learning how to cast his fishing pole from last summer when they visited.

See they live like 12 hours away by car so it's not like he pops around to see me all that often.

Cool Eddy is in first grade where they have cool projects like reading about Flat Stanley & making your own version.

Flat Stanley if you don't know from personal experience is a boy who was flattened by a blackboard and is so thin he can visit lots of different places usually through the mail. He's pretty cool, but perhaps slightly naughty.

Cool Eddy recently mailed Flat Eddy to our house for a visit. Isn't he cute? I texted my Sis in Law to find out what he was holding in his hand. The response was a skateboard. I am thinking that the other item might be a hockey stick since we are big on that here nearly in Canada. ;-)

Flat Eddy is not naughty one bit. He was a bit on the cold side when he arrived so we had to make him a sweatshirt.

See North Carolina where he lives is wayyyyy warmer than Northern NY where we are just now starting
spring.

Here is Flat Eddy with his new sweatshirt riding Patti our dog. Patti might not be enjoying the ride as much as she could seeing that she prefers to do only things that she has thought up herself.

Now, Flat Eddy HAS had a bit of fun here in Northern NY. He watched the huge tractor plow our field the other day. Well, it's not really "OUR" field, but is the field in front of our house hence it's mine to look at. Love having barns on either side of us as we're country dwellers!

And earlier this week he helped us move the wood pile from Point A to Point B. See, being country peeps, we have a wood stove that we use to heat our house. There is a lot of wood cutting that happens here in the summer & fall. That means spring involves taking last year's wood that is left over and moving to the front to fit the new wetter stuff behind it. Fun times! Poor Flat Eddy did not get to see any mice. Sometimes there are mice hiding out in the pile, although we did see four or five huge night crawlers.

He is also getting to enjoy spring AGAIN as we are father behind than North Carolina. Lucky him. Spring is such a hopeful time of year and paper people can't get mosquito bites!

All this has been fun for Flat Eddy, but he is looking to take a virtual visit to your house via your pc. If you could, leave me a small comment and tell me where you're from and what things are like in your neck of the woods. Cool Eddy would be VERY appreciative. And hopefully this will score him a big fat A on his project!

Thanks for hanging with me and Cool Eddy!

  1. Wow Cool Eddy sure keeps busy! Hi I live in Australia in the state of Queensland.. we are in the middle of autumn at the moment and the nights are cool but the days are the kind where you where layers, so you can take them off as the day heats up and put them back on as the evening comes and cools down again.. We live in a rural residential area and have 5 acres of land. We have a horse too, and he is a naughty horse so Cool Eddy would not like to ride him..Things are busy around here especially in the area of building roads as most of them were damaged in the floods we had in 2011... So lots of road works, lots of stop and go and slow down signs.. We live in a lovely country area with lots of trees and birds and it is a wonderful place to grow up if you are a kid! I hope Cool Eddy stays safe in his adventures and I hope he finds his other gum boot!!!

  2. Cool Eddy has been having a lovely sojourn in the countryside. I'm from Australia too. We went for a walk down to the beach this morning, as we only live 6 minutes drive from the nearest surf beach. Even though its autumn here, they were having a surfing contest on. We have a house by the waterways, which are called Brisbane Waters, and a small boat that I'm sure Cool Eddy would LOVE to have a ride on!!! Our house is a weatherboard cottage with a small attic upstairs. We get lots of birds here, including seagulls, magpies, mud larks, swallows, pelicans, willy wag tails & kookaburras to name a few:):)

  4. We've hosted several Flat Stanleys here in London England - for some reason it's always popular with my US friends and family ;)

  5. Flat Stanley was one of my favourite childhood stories. Well if you were in Durban Eddy you'd be at the beach, surfing, watching rugby or shopping with us + enjoying a cappucino at the mall!!

  6. If Flat Stanley came here to the UK he would see that spring is here and all the trees are green with new buds. I live close to the centre of the city but I still have chickens in my back yard. Only three chickens, but they give me two or three eggs every day. They don't mind living in a city back yard because they get to see the children walking to school every morning and they can chase the scaredy cats away from their yard gate.

  7. I haven't heard of Flat Eddy, we have Jofli here who comes to stay and check out your weekend activities.
So Flat Eddy, we are here in Ilfracombe, on the North Devon Coast in Southern England. It is finally sunny and warm after a long cold winter with unusually cold spells and an awful lot of snow showers for us :) We are just starting Spring properly and looking forward to summer :)

  8. Flat Eddy sure did learn a lot on his visit with you. When he gets back to Cool Eddy, he'll have a lot to tell him.

  9. What a genius idea!

If he came to N. Ireland he would see that Spring was about to appear and then changed her mind. It's a holiday weekend here, but it is barely warm enough to be outside and school sports matches have been cancelled because of the rain. In the city here we live in a house built of red brick and we are surrounded by many others the same. There used to be a red brick factory very close to here in Victorian times and sometimes we dig up old bits of it from our garden.

I hope that's the kind of thing you are looking for :) Best of luck with that project

  10. Now if he came to visit me he would be able to sit in the sun in my garden, may be in the tree or he could clib on the shed roof and watch the birds in the ivy. if he was an inside kind of a chap he could be here on my desk helping me with some stitching of an elephant then he could sit on her and pretend he was in the jungle....

  11. Hi there Cool Eddy my you have had some adventures around the world. I'm in the UK too and I live in a small market town with the Shropshire Hills close by. We have a famous man called William Penny-Brookes not far away in Much Wenlock who it is believed started the first modern Olympic Games competition. I went to do an art project last year about him and his life. There is a museum now showing life as it was back when he first started the Games which you would find really interesting. I live in a small flat/apartment, but I can hear the birds calling all day long now that Spring has finally arrived here. Good luck with your project Cool Eddy.

  12. If he came to stay with me he could join in the excitement of my little granddaughter coming to stay and spend the day on the beach. The sunshine has been a long time arriving here in England and as I type it's disappeared again !

  13. I am from the Southeastern area of Pennsylvania (north of Philly, south of Allentown). If Flat Eddy came to visit here, he would see that Spring has fully Sprung! The migratory birds have all returned and bird song symphonies are happening everywhere you go. All of the trees have leafed out but are still that early Spring Green color, not the darker green they'll be by Summer. The flowering trees have all bloomed and it is starting to rain pink and white petals all over the lawns around here. Of course, today it happens to be rainy and grey, but that is part of the deal with Spring!

  14. If Flat Stanley came here he'd need a mix of clothing because in the UK you can go from winter temperatures to summer temperatures in the space of 24 hours! He'll be able to help me with training our dog, we had our first training session today and we have lots of homework to do. If Eddy's teacher wants to know where he's been, it's a county called Hertfordshire about 30 miles north of London.

  15. Looove Flat Stanley projects!! That's so great that you made him a sweatshirt for the weather. Would be so much fun to send him here to Knob Noster Mo and maybe the pilot of a B-2 could take him for a little flight. :) Otherwise, he'll have to stay on the ground and ride around in a fire truck.

  16. If flat Eddy came to visit me I could take him on a tour of the historic potteries. I live in Stoke-on-Trent, the home of Wedgwood, Royal Doulton, Minton and Spode. Nearly all of the big factories are closed now but the museums are really interesting and there is even one where you can have a go a throwing a pot on a potters wheel and making a flower out of china clay. Stoke-on-Trent is in Staffordshire in the middle of England.

  17. Sounds like Flat Eddy is having loads of fun! If he came to visit me, here in Edmonton, Alberta, he might need a pair of long pants. Spring is fighting to arrive here and after one really hot day on Monday it's cool again. Flat Eddy would be able to help me with my community garden plot because I'm in the process of planning it out and I'm hoping to get some seeds into the ground soon - if the weather cooperates! I hope Flat Eddy has lots of awesome adventures!

  18. Well hello cool Eddy and Flat Stanley! What an adventure you've been on!!!!! If Flat Stanley came here to Wellington, Florida (near West Palm Beach) he would only need to wear shorts and bring his swimsuit! Everyday is beautiful with our temps in the low 80s. We could play in the yard with all the neighbor kids or swim in our pool! Cool Eddy has visited here before because his mom is one of my best friends! I hope the fun adventure continues! Sincerely, Dorene Harkness

  19. What a great idea! We are supposed to be having Spring here in the very South of England and we did have it for a couple of days at the beginning of the week but we are back to rain and grey skies again. We are heading for the final term of this school year which for us means my eldest goes up to Junior school in September (he will be 7 in 3 weeks time) and my youngest starts primary school then so they are preparing for some new and exciting times!

  20. If Flat Eddy came over to Spain to visit, he could leave that sweatshirt behind...the days are warm now and in fact, if he wasn't made of paper, he could probably safely go into the pool! (Not that I've braved it yet, but I'm a wimp!)
